NTE | 35W Project Update April 2016

Latest Direct Connector at I-35W/I-820 Interchange Opens

This week, the new direct connector from westbound I-820 to northbound I-35W opened.

The exit is located east of the former exit, and is now part of a split exit to I-35W southbound and northbound. Southbound I-35W traffic will exit to the left, and northbound I-35W traffic will exit to the right.

Major traffic shifts and new ramps can often cause confusion either with drivers who have exited one way for decades, or for drivers unfamiliar with the area.

We strongly encourage everyone to exercise an abundance of caution and observe all posted speed limits through the construction zone.

Here is a summary of upcoming construction activities and closures.

Construction at High Speed

Here is our latest construction video, featuring time-lapse and real-time footage of our crews hard at work, much of it while most of the Metroplex is getting some well-deserved sleep. Highlights include work in and around the I-820/I-35W interchange, Meacham Blvd., 28th St., the Trinity River and Spur 280.

To see the ultimate configuration of the highway, especially in regards to the location of main-lane on-ramps and off-ramps, along with entrances and exits for the TEXpress Lanes, check out this map on the NTE website that provides more detail.

Know Before You Go

In Texas, if it's spring, you can count on spring storms popping up. The unpredictable nature of our inclement weather can cause construction activities to be cancelled or postponed, so we encourage drivers to check for up-to-the-minute information on lane closures and traffic detours on our Twitter and Facebook social media accounts.

We also post information about accidents and delays, which can help keep you on track when traveling along I-35W or the North Tarrant Express corridor along Loop 820 and Airport Freeway.

Be sure to "Know Before You Go!" You can find a complete list of current lane closures here along with alternate route maps here.

Planning Ahead

One of the most important roles we have as a project team is ensuring that businesses and commuters have current information about the progress we're making on the I-35W reconstruction.

Every quarter we host a Business Owners Task Force to provide updates on construction, along with a look ahead at work planned for the coming months. The goal is to provide business owners - and all others who are interested - the information they need to anticipate delays in and around their businesses or along their employees' drives to work.

The next NTE Business Owner Task Force is scheduled for Wednesday, June 8 at 9:30 a.m. at Fossil Creek 11 Theater (6100 North Freeway). Please join us!
