NTE in the Community: Supporting STEM in Local School Districts

While constructing, operating and maintaining highways is the core business of the North Tarrant Express (NTE) project team, giving back to the local communities impacted by highway reconstruction is also an important focus.

Of particular interest to the NTE team is supporting educational initiatives, especially as they relate to the study of science, technology, engineering and math (or STEM). "We view helping to encourage and support students in their study of STEM subjects as a vital investment in our future workforce," said Robert Hinkle, corporate affairs director for NTE Mobility Partners, the project developer.

Recently, Hinkle presented the Birdville Education Foundation board with a $40,000 gift to fund STEM-related initiatives and equipment in the Birdville Independent School District (BISD). The NTE and BISD teams will work together to identify high-priority, high-impact funding needs for the 2016-17 school year, along with opportunities for NTE professionals to interact with and mentor STEM students, showcasing real-world applications of STEM courses.

In 2011, NTE partnered with the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) to expand Advanced Placement (AP) math, science and English courses in Haltom High School. The NTE project team awarded a five-year, $476,750 grant to foster student access to and success in AP coursework, which is correlated with success in college and beyond.

Business Owners Task Force on June 13

The great progress we're making to expand I-35W would not be possible without the support and feedback from the area's business owners.

We invite area business owners and any other interested parties to join us for the quarterly Business Owners Task Force meeting, where we'll provide updates on construction, along with a look at work planned for the coming months.

Our goal is to share critical information with businesses to help them better anticipate and plan for delays in and around their businesses or along their employees' drives to work.

The next NTE Business Owner Task Force is scheduled for Monday, June 13 at 9:30 a.m. at Fossil Creek 11 Theater (6100 North Freeway).

Know Before You Go!

With schools out and families headed out on the road for vacation, it is more important than ever that drivers plan ahead and check for closures and traffic detours on our website and on our Twitter and Facebook social media accounts.

We also post as-it-happens information on accidents and delays on social media, which can help keep you on track when traveling along I-35W or the North Tarrant Express corridor along Loop 820 and Airport Freeway.

Be sure to "Know Before You Go!" You can find a complete list of current lane closures here along with alternate route maps here.
